“How has your day been?” asked a coworker as I logged into my fifth call of the day.
I let out a deep sigh and said, “Oh well… there’s just so much to do.”
“Isn’t there always?” they smiled and replied.
I paused. Made a mental note. And then, we continued with the meeting as planned.
Take a look at your calendar for a moment. What do you observe?
Or, if you're a pen-and-paper person, flip through your to-do list.
What do you see?
How many tasks are lined up for today? This week? This month?
How many have you actually completed?
How many are still pending?
You started the week with energy. The excitement to conquer it all.
A team huddle hyped you up. You felt ready.
Then reality hit. ⚡
One small catch-up here.
One small project there.
Tasks you didn’t account for.
Tasks you don’t really have time for.
So, what do you do?
You stretch. You squeeze in extra hours. Maybe pull a late-night work session—just this once.
You tell people, “Let me know if you need help,” even though you should be the one asking for some.
Your calendar gets swamped.
You eat lunch while taking notes.
Take brisk walks with a Bluetooth headset glued to your ear.
Barely acknowledge your pet, who’s been begging for attention all day.
Forget to call your mom back, and now she’s worried.
Friends stop checking in because they already know the answer: “Sorry, let’s plan something next month?”
But you tell yourself:
“No, but I got this.”
“Only one last email.”
“Just a final push, and I’m done.”
Ping! 🔔
Here comes more work.
Have I made my point yet?
There will always be infinite things to do.
Be grateful for the work you have—but don’t work yourself into the ground.
It’s okay not to reply to an email the very second it lands. Decide what’s urgent and what isn’t.
It’s okay to say, “Can I jump off this call? I have more pressing priorities.”
It’s okay to ask for an email before committing to a 30-minute walkthrough.
It’s okay.
Your job isn’t holding these things against you.
You are.
Stop being the mean boss to yourself.
Be the supportive coworker instead.
BUSY: A Guide to Doing Less, But Better
Next time you feel overwhelmed by your never-ending to-do list, pause and remember this:
Boundaries over burnout – Not everything needs your immediate attention. Learn to say no.
Unplug to recharge – Productivity isn’t about constant motion; rest fuels results.
Simplify your schedule – Just because it fits on your calendar doesn’t mean it fits in your life.
Your well-being comes first – Work is a part of your life, not your entire identity.
Reflect & Rewrite ✍🏻
Now, I’d love to know from you:
Take a moment to reflect and write this down in your journal (or comment below or email me privately):
What’s one task you keep pushing off because you don’t have time for it? Is it actually important, or can it go?
If your best friend had your workload, what advice would you give them? Are you following it yourself?
When was the last time you did something purely for yourself? How can you make space for more of that?
Write back with your thoughts because I truly want to hear what you think!✨
