Falling in love with the Seasonality of Life
The Secret to Loving the Life You Have, No Matter the Season You’re In
Here’s the thing — I hate feeling sad. It’s boring. It’s monotonous. It’s blah.
And I don’t associate myself with those words. Anymore.
I’m the type of person who always tries to find the silver lining in everything.
Having a bad day? No problem, I’ll figure it out.
Going through a rough breakup? I got this.
Stuck in a rut? It’ll pass.
But here’s the reality: life doesn’t always play along. It’s messy, unpredictable, and far from the constant sunshine I try to create.
I’ll admit, maybe I come across as annoying to some people.
The ones who look at me and say, “What’s so good about this morning, huh?”
And honestly, they’re not wrong. In trying to always keep things sunny, I stretch myself too thin.
I end up missing the whole point: life (much like the weather) has seasons.
I’ve spent so much energy trying to be the positive one, the one who’s always got it together, that it can be, frankly, exhausting.
It’s like I’m trying to outrun the clouds, but no matter how fast I go, they catch up.
And guess what?
That’s fine.
I’m learning to let go. To embrace the seasonality of life. To understand that not every day is going to be my day. And that’s okay!
Some days are a win.
Some days are… well… just days.
Life has many seasons. I might not love all of them.
But guess what? They don’t care.
They’ll still come.
I don’t get to skip winter just because I’m not in the mood for cold mornings and shorter days.
But I can be prepared.
Prepared to feel a little stuck sometimes. A little sad sometimes. Have a few “meh” days sometimes.
You can’t skip seasons.
Life isn’t just endless summer. And honestly? If it were, we’d probably stop appreciating it.

1. Summer: The Good Times
You know those days where everything just clicks? That’s summer. There’s a lightness in the air, things feel easy, and you wake up with excitement because life is just… GOOOOOOOD!
I remember when I got my first big job promotion. I felt invincible, like the world was mine for the taking. It was like standing in the sun, basking in warmth, and everything felt like it was going in my favour.
The promotion wasn’t just about the money; it was validation.
The hard work I’d put in had finally paid off.
But the funny thing about summer? It can make you forget that other seasons exist. You can get so comfortable, so used to things going well, that you start to believe it’ll last forever.
I thought the “summer” of my career would always feel this good.
Spoiler: it didn’t.
2. Autumn: Letting Go
Then comes autumn. A time of change.
It’s not as easy to deal with because it asks you to let go.
I faced an autumn when a close friendship started to fade. We were inseparable for years, but slowly, without realizing it, we drifted apart. No big fallout, just life taking us in different directions.
It was hard.
I kept trying to hold onto the past, like a tree clinging to its last few leaves. But autumn teaches you that not everything is meant to stay.
The beauty of autumn, though, is that in letting go, you make space for something new.
Once I stopped trying to hold onto that friendship, I found other people who matched where I was in life. It was a quieter season, but it was also one where I learned how important it is to embrace change instead of fighting it.
Letting go can be painful, but it can also be freeing.
3. Winter: The Tough Times
Winter is a tricky one. It’s cold, it’s quiet, and it’s often a little lonely.
For me, winter hit when I failed at my first startup. It was a dream I poured so much energy and hope into, and when it didn’t work out, I felt like I was buried under a blanket of snow, unable to see the way forward.
There’s nothing quite like the chill of failure, especially when you’ve invested so much of yourself in something.
But winter also gave me the time I needed to reflect. It slowed me down, forced me to rethink my approach, and eventually gave me the clarity I needed to move forward.
Winters don’t last forever, but they teach you resilience.
It’s during these times that you learn what you're truly capable of.
And that, in itself, is a quiet kind of strength.
4. Spring: New Beginnings
Spring is when things start to bloom again.
For me, spring was meeting someone new after a long period of focusing on myself.
The warmth of a new relationship brought hope, excitement, and a sense of renewal that I hadn’t felt in a while. After the cold, quiet months of winter, suddenly, everything felt vibrant and alive again.
Spring is a reminder that no matter how long winter feels, there’s always the possibility of growth and fresh starts.
It’s the season of second chances, of things coming to life again, and of seeing the world with new eyes.
The beauty of spring is that it makes you appreciate everything a little more because you remember what it was like when it wasn’t there.
How to Fall in Love with the Seasonality of Life:
Here’s how I’ve come to embrace the natural rhythm of life:
S: Speak to Someone
When life feels overwhelming, talk to a friend, a family member, or someone you trust. Sharing your thoughts helps you process your emotions and makes the season less lonely.Whether it’s to vent or just for a laugh, human connection is everything.
E: Embrace the Everyday
Focus on the little things that bring you joy, like a cup of tea, a walk in the park, or binge-watching your favourite show. Every season has its good moments.Make sure to notice and savour them, no matter how small.
A: Ask for Help
If you’re stuck or struggling, don’t hesitate to ask for support — whether that’s advice from a mentor, a helping hand from a colleague, or a comforting word from a friend. You’re not supposed to go through tough times alone.
S: Slow Down
In the busyness of life, it’s easy to rush through everything. But sometimes, slowing down and taking a breather is the best thing you can do.Take time to pause, reflect, and just be in the moment. It’s okay to rest.
O: Open Up to New Possibilities
Each season brings new opportunities. It could be as simple as trying a new hobby, reading a book, or meeting someone new. Be open to experiences, because you never know what might lead to something amazing.Stay curious. Keep searching.
N: Nurture Yourself
Self-care isn’t just about bubble baths and Netflix (though that helps). It’s about making sure you’re physically, emotionally, and mentally okay.Whether it’s journaling, meditating, or getting enough sleep, prioritize things that recharge you.
Life doesn’t owe you ease, but it does offer you growth.
And I’ve learned that firsthand.
So, when life feels like it’s closing in, know this: no season lasts forever.
You won’t just get through it—you’ll grow through it.
Because, in the end, true strength isn’t found in avoiding the storm; it’s found in learning how to dance in the rain.
